Church Notes: It is believed that the site of the former monastery and present parish church had been the residence/dormitory of the "caciques" of Xochimilco, and a temple to the Aztec godess Tonantzin
Noted in the web site of the Mexican Ministerio de Cultura (www.cultura.df.gob.mx). Baptismal font made of glazed earthenware and ornamented with angels, a head of Christ in a cartouche, garlands, etc,; the decoration is profuse both on the basin and stem sides; the rim of the basin and the lower edge area decorated with the Franciscan rope cingulum. A work reminscent of the glazed fonts being made in Spain for churches in Andalusia, the Canary Islands, etc. in the same period.
