Andre (1882) notes that "Queen Elizabeth gave two presents of golden fonts, one to Mary Queen of Scotland, the second to Charles IX, of France, each of these golden vessels cost one thousand pounds." There is a mention in Worthy (1887) of a "'Font of pure gold' as a complimentary gift on this occasion", carried by Francis, second Earl of Bedford, who was "proxy for the English Queen at the baptism of Prince James, afterwards King James I", therefore in 1566? Was this one of the said fonts?
