The font cover is noted in Paley (1844) as "a perfect specimen of the Elizabethan period, which is locked down at one side of the font." Bond (1908) describes and illustrates the cover on this font as Jacobean, of the type with shutters or open windows and gives the date as 1623. His illustration shows an octagonal open design with vertical columns and arches between them; these sides end in pinnacle-like tops forming a crown at the top, although there is a taller central pyramid with a Latin cross finial. The same illustration permits just a narrow sight of the upper basin sides of the font itself, ornamented with what appears to be an arcade of Ogee arches around the octagonal basin.
