INFORMATION

FontID: 05155VAL
Church/Chapel: Eglise paroissiale Saint-Étienne
Church Patron Saints: St. Stephen
Church Location: Place de l'église, 05290 Vallouise-Pelvoux, France
Country Name: France
Location: Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
Directions to Site: Located off the D504, on the W bank of Le Gyr river, about 20 km SW of Briançon
Font Location in Church: Inside the church
Century and Period: 16th century, Late Gothic
Church Notes: See also the interesting font and its sadly maimed cover, as well as the motifs on the outside freeze, which are similar to the ones on the baptismal font.
On-site notes: this object may be a reduced version of the original, since it appears to have los the stem of the base. The coarse-granite basin is roughly hemispheric and plain, with what appears to be a patched/sealed drain hole at the centre basin well. The base is aquare at the bottom and has foliage motifs at the corners and sides. This object may have been a baptismal font from another church in the area, but it is now used as a holy-water stoup here.
