Described in Bond (1908) simply as an oval font. Described and illustrated in Stabb (1908): "The font [...] is worthy of notice, instead of being square or round in shape as is usually the case, the bowl is oval, this is the only instance I know of in Devonshire of a font with an oval bowl." Described and illustrated in Clarke (1916) as a baptismal font consisting of a shallow oval basin decorated with the pattern she calls "fluted" common to several other fonts in the area [cf. Index entries for Clayhanger, Parkham, etc.]. Clarke (ibid.) further remarks that in this basin the "dressing is vertical; this is unusual in a font, where it is generally diagonal. The font has no cable or chevron, only a round moulding at the rim. It is made of local stone which has a general tint of grey with reddish patches, and if it had never been whitewashed the colour would have been beautiful. The bowl is not lined." Described in Pevsner (1952): "Font. Circular, Norman, with small fluted bowl."
