view of church exterior - west portal - detail

Scene Description: the abutment or imposte on the south side includes three seated 'creatures': the two on the sides appear to be seated lions; the one in the centre appears rather simian, with hunched shoulders and hands resting on its knees; the legs are manacled to a chain that girds its waist. Sin? Devil?
