Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM13000896] as a stone font of the 14th century: "Selon la tradition, ces fonts auraient été donnés à l'église par l'empereur Charlemagne." [cf. infra] On-site notes: no trace found of the Carolingian font said to exist -or have existed- in this church. Instead we found a tetra-lobed chalice-shaped baptismal font of the 13th century; it has a band or foliage ornamentation around the upper rim side; on the front it has the figure of St. Laurence, dressed as a monk, tonsured anbd holding a book in his left hand; in the right hand he holds up a small grill, the symbol of his martyrdom. The base has a flat but wide ring and the splayed lower base has ribbed pattern ornamentation. There is a flat wooden cover hinged at about 1/3 from the back. The font appears to be in very good shape, with evidence of repairs (?) on the lower underbowl.
