XXXII, 1966, p. 65-69). Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM31000716]: "fonts baptismaux [...] calcaire (blanc) [...] 13e siècle". Described and illustrated in Mesplé (1970: 135-136) who dates the font to ca. 1319 based on the inscription on the font at St-Ferréol [cf. Index entry] which Mesplé identifies as cognate. Mesplé describes the iconographic program much along the lines followed below and points out the un-matching motif on the eighth side arguing that this sface may have been originally against the wall and therefore left unfinished by the carver, and that it was only finished when the font was moved to the centre of the baptistery [Mesplé (ibid.) has a similar suggestion for the second inscribed side on the font at St-Ferréol [cf. Index entry]. On-site notes: octagonal basin with short vertical sides and a long chamfer whose eight sides follow those of the upper basin. It is raised on a cylindrical pedestal base. The sides of the basin are ornamented with two well-executed high-relief motifs per panel, except the last one which has a crude boat (?) and a fish incised on it. It is quite likely that this last side was not finished originally because the font may have been intended to go against a wall or the work was stopped by other reasons [this suggestion was confirmed by Mesplé's observation -cf. supra- along the same lines]. Order of the motifs on the basin sides [starting with the first motif after the rough side, left to right]: side 1): six-petal rosette and star of David; side 2): two quatrefoil windows or crosses; side 3): fleur-de-lis and star of David; side 4): two patriarchal crosses; side 5): two six-point stars; side 6): Maltese cross and quatrefoil window; side 7): shield with quatrefoil window, six-point star and star of David; side 8) (rough side): incised boat and fish. There is damage to the upper rim of the basin at opposite ends, a sign of forceful removal of the lid hinges.
