The description and illustration in Bond (1908: 36, 73, 271) refers not to the font itself but to a silver insert donated to the church in the mid-18th century by Ann Evans in the memory of her husband William. This silver insert would be placed on the existing font and, at that late date, would have been considered a more elegant and dignified vessel for the practice of baptism, as the inscription [cf. Inscription area]. Pevsner (1971) notes: "Font. Flat octagonal bowl. The panelling of the stem and base looks C17." Richards (1973) is not helpful either; he mentions: "a modern font in the baptistry" and shows an image captioned "Post-Reformation Font and Cover".
