Font Notes:
Catalogued and illustrated in Mazzanti (1987: 96): a holy-water stoup dated to the early 17th century. Shallow basin (oval?) is ornamented with a broad upper rim lip; this fold stops at every 90-degree point and curls down framing the head of a cherub whose wings spread on the underbowl. The stem of the base resembles three spindle-shape vases, one of top of the other; the lowest one has garland ornamentation on its side. The lower base is triangular in plant, each angle made up of a wide scroll or leave ornament curling inwards; one of the sides of this lower base has a bishop's mitre and the initials "S.M.V.", while the left side has the letter "D" on it. Mazzanti (ibid.) informs that the initials by the mitre have been construed by some authors to stand for "San Martino Vescovo" and to refer to the possible provenance of this item, perhaps the convento di San Martino alla Scala di Firenze. Like the other, earlier stoup [cf. Index entry for Campi... No. 1], Mazzanti attributes it to Florentin manufacturers. The same source reports the baptismal font in this church as being from the late 19th century [not listed in this Index]
