Catalogued and illustrated in Mazzanti (1987:95): a holy-water stoup dated 1478 and a gift to this church in 1478 or 1479 by Bartolomeo Del Troscia as indicated in the inscription which runs around the basin underbowl [cf. Inscription section]. The shallow basin is oval with a lip on the upper rim, becoming a down curlicue at each side, while the font is ornamented with a coat of arms bearing what appears to be a rampant lion [it is identified in Mazzanti as "lo stemma della famiglia Del Troscia" (Ibid., p. 95). The stem of the base is spindle-shaped and the lower base is a truncated square pyramid. Mazzanti (ibid.) gives the material as white marble and further reports that the stoup was attached to one of the nave columns facing the chapel belonging to the donor family, a location documented as early as 1655, whereas today's location -continues Mazzanti- is traced back only to the visit by archbishop Cecconi in 1881 (ibid.) It is, again, according to Mazzanti, a work of Florentine manufacture. The same source reports the baptismal font in this church as being from the late 19th century [not listed in this Index]
