Church Notes: Verdigi (1986: p. 109ff) dates the original chiesa di S. Agostino -formerly dedicated to S. Regolo- to the 11th century, with reconstructions in the 14th, 16th and 17th centuries. He also tells an odd story about the bishop of Sarzana stopping the use of the blessing of the water in the font in the new church (built in 1390) in 1584, because the faithful were in the habit of drinking the newly blessed water right-away (Ibid., p. 109)

Illustrated in Verdigi (1986:??): a rather crudely executed holy-water stoup; the basin is hemispheric and has one protruding face carved on the basin side; the base appears round and plain. The general appearence is that of a Norman or Norman-style object.
