Described and illustrated in Tynell (1913-1921); Carlsson (1976: 125 and pl. 189); Ljungman (1993: 16-17) mentions a diamond-motif decorative rim and four lions. Described and illustrated in Rydbeck (1936). Noted in Reutersvärd (1967). While Tynell (ibid.) groups with the Hvitaby-Maglehemsgruppen, Drake (2002: 150-151) uses "Maglehem- Norra Åsum" as the grouping. Noted and illustrated in the SHM Medeltidens bildvärld [ref.: 900730F1] as a 'Vitabygruppen' baptismal font made of sandstone ca. 1200. Romanesque baptismal font of the late 12th or early 13th century; the hemispheric basin has, as Ljungman inidicates a thin decorated upper rim side; below it, two registers: the upper one has beautiful interlace of beaded-tape motif resembling foliage framing two central motifs: on the front side, a priestly figure has both hands raised in benediction, while at the back there is an Agnus Dei with crozier; on the second register, palmettes and acanthus leaves alternate linked by a wavy band of beaded-tape motif; the underbowl is ornamented with a pattern of broad ribs. The base is square and has two volumes: the upper one, i.e., the stem, is made of four lovely couchant lions, one on each side, with tails over their backs and each biting the next lion's hind quarters; the second volume, which rests directly on the ground, is square and totally plain. No cover present.
