Font Notes:
The entry for Saint-Amandin in Rochemonteix (1902) mentions two holy-water stoups in its church: one of them, on the left side of the portal, outside, still retains a head decoration, but very worn, is believed locally to have been for the exclusive use of lepres and 'cagots'; the other, inside the church, is of the 15th century and, though somewhat similar to one such in Cheylade, but better executed; an illustration of the interior stoup is included in Rochemonteix. Described as being a holy-water stoup very similar to the one at Cheylade nearby, according to Lasteyrie (1926-1927), with an octagonal basin raised on a round pedestal stem and a square lower base. The stoup is ornamented with a frieze framed between two groups of mouldings and four human heads. Lasteyrie qualifies them as rather rustic works, more interesting for their age than for their artistic value (ibid., p. 519). The FranceArchives site [https://francearchives.fr/en/facomponent/0f41c833ec889850825b8deaafc213a4b5bfd665] [accessed 16 September 2022] reports holdings of three photographs in the Photothèque cantalienne: "Fonts baptismaux. - Cliché P. Parry. - N. et b. [45 Fi 995]; Bénitier. - Cliché P. Parry. - N. et b. [45 Fi 993]; Bénitier extérieur. - Cliché P. Parry. - N. et b. [45 Fi 994]", none of which are viewable on line, unfortunately. Two stoups here are listed in Palissy [ref.: PM15000340 and PM15000742]; the first is simply dated as medieval, with measurements "h = 56 ; la = 26 ; pr = 21", and probably referes to the stoup outside; the second is dated 15th-century, also with measurements "h = 92 ; la = 15 ; d = 42', and likely refers to the stoup inside the church [cf. supra].
