Described and illustrated in Blindheim (1965). Described and illustrated in Carlsson (1976) as a monolithic bucket-shaped font with a slightly narrower base and a wider lower base; the basin side has a hunting scene in which a large lion is stabbed by two men, one of which has the top of his head in the mouth of the lion; the stem of the base is decorated with a blind arcade the columns of which have torsade pattern; the lower base has leaf motif on the sides and corner figures, one of which is described in Carlsson (ibid.) as "a phallic man pulling his beard or chin." [cf. also an article by Inger-Lise Kolstrup, "Munkbrarupfontens udsmykning" in ROMANSKE STENARBEJDER (Højbjerg, DK: Folaget Hikuin, 1989): p. 139-154 - ***to be analysed and added]. On-site notes: the round basin has a hunting scene that includes three active hunters: the hunter on the left spears the lion; the hunter in the centre thrusts his sword into the lion's body as the animal holds him and has his head partially in its mouth; the third hunter thrusts his sword in the hind quarters of the lion; next is a seated crowned figure holding a sword in his left hand while the right is raised in benediction(or an ordering gesture?); he sits on a blind arcade of round arches; an acanthus knot inscribed in a round arch, on a row of blank arches or scallops, a row of crenellation and a blind arcade of round arches; inscribed in the next arch, a hunter on foot, armed with a sword and blowing his horn; the stem has an arcade of round arches, partly unfinished; the round-to-square lower base has an unfinished vine or interlace on the sides; at the angles are four figures, not quite human, though two of them may be grotesque characters; one is an atlante; the other one is seated, elbows on knees, its face on its hands, and an erect phallus between its legs; another seated figure, perhaps simian, has also a distinct phallus between its legs. The granite font is in fair shape of conservation, with some rust coloration around the upper rim. There is no cover. A metal tripod is used to support the brass basin used for baptism; there appears to be a drain hole, now blocked. There is no cover.
