Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes du Finistère (1998) as a 17th-century baptismal font. The hexagonal baldaquin over the font is dated 1701 in the source (Ibid.), but 1690 in the local church guide [cf. infra and ChurchNotes]. Not known whether the date, 1649, is inscribed on the font. The SPREV-fédération pour la Sauvegarde du Patrimoine Religieux [www.sprev.org] dates this font to the 16th century [cf. infra]. The local printed church guide notes [NB: in English in the original]: "There are two 16th c. granite fonts. The larger one contains holy water, and the smaller one, used for the actual baptism, contains an outlet for holy water. Over these fonts is a wooden canopy supported by eight wooden columns painted to simulate marble, with winged cherubims (1690)." The font is of the double-basin design with separate supports; the support of the large basin is broad, round and moulded; the support of the smaller basin [the one with the drain] is round, with a torsade pattern on the upper half and moulded on the lower part; the granite of the two basins is different, the larger one being of a darker hue and coarser hue; the side of the larger basin has plain shields on some of its sides [four?], and a horizontal groove on the other sides; it retains two large metal staples for the security of the cover; the wooden cover itself is octagonal and flat, and has a small trap door to provide access to the inner well. There is an inscription in Gothic lettering on the large plinth or platform on which the canopy and the fonts stand [NB: we have no transcription of the text at present].
