Roche-Maurice, La No. 3 / Ar Roc'h-Morvan

Described and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes du Finistère (1998) as a mid 16th-century holy-water stoup wall-mounted just inside the south door of the church; it is polygonal with vertical sides; the front side has a scroll on which appear, in Gothic lettering, "A : MEN". The source [cf. supra] explains that the text actually refers to the sculptor, one of the local Le Men, who fleurished in the area around the middle of the 16th century [the same source shows a "sablière" the work of Fiacre Le Men who depicts himself on it with a mallet in his hand. (Ibid., v. 2, p. 1000)]. The entry for this church in PORMENAZ site [http://pormenaz.free.fr/La-roche-maurice.php], however, notes: "La cuve des anciens fonds baptismaux date du XVIIème siècle : elle sert aujourd'hui de bénitier sous le clocher."
