Font Notes:
Described in the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra (1990?- , vol. IV**: 473); described and illustrated in Domeño (1992: 144 and pl. 156): medieval baptismal font; the cylindrical basin has a blind arcade of round arches resting on capitals and columns, and foliage motif in the spandrels; the lower side has a band of saw-tooth all around; cylindrical stem of the base; circular lower base with ball ornamentation. This font appeared ca. 1943 without the lower base [unless it was buried in the raised wooden floor] and had a plain flat wooden cover. By 1992 the lower base had been installed [or uncovered] and the font had acquired a fancier cover: a tallish pyramidal (octagonal) wooden lid that matched the new wainscotting of the inside walls of the church. Simeón Hidalgo Valencia (e-mail of 2 May 2014 to BSI) suggets the existence of a workshop in the valleys of Izagaondoa, Lizoáin, Unciti and Urraúl Bajo, which would include the fonts at Artáiz, Cemboráin, Grez, Idoate, Lérruz, Najurieta, Reta, Zuazu, and others in the area.
