Described and illustrated in the Catálogo Monumental de Navarra (1990?- , vol. V**: 636 and pl. 673) and in Domeño (1992: 139 and figs. 167, 168); Romanesque baptismal font; the cylindrical basin has low sides [like several of the Navarrese fonts of this type, e.g., Artaiz, Elorz, etc.] and is ornamented with a blind arcade of round arches; the chamfered underbowl is plain; the stem of the base is cylindrical and ornamented with zoomorphic reliefs: two large animals, probably a lion (?) and a snake or dragon (?), biting each other's snouts; below them, much smaller, a dog (?) bites another quadruped's tail; the lower base has the common circular volume on a square one, the upper with ball motif (?) at the corners. Although one can relate these to zoomorphic themes found in some of the Santander fonts, the execution of the animals here is very crude. There is evidence of damage and repair in the upper rim area, probably caused by the removal of the old iron staples of the cover (?). A similar font is listed for Gascue, also near Pamplona [cf. Index entry for Gascue]. [We are grateful to the Institución Príncipe de Viana and to the photographers Larrión & Pimoulier for the images of this font]
