Described and illustrated in the Inventaire général... Romanesque cylindrical unmounted font made of pink sandstone; it has vertical sides, plain except for two narrow bands of ornamentation (foliage at top, palmettes and grapevine leaves at bottom). There is obvious damage on several spots around the sides; this source (ibid.) gives the probable origin as the old abbey at Murbach, but it was used as well-head later at Buhl, and eventually brought to the Florival museum in Guebwiller; the font has been restored ["par consolidation au mortier"] (ibid.) The present font, located at the west end of the south aisle [cf. Images area] consists of a plain hemispherical basin raised on a round to square pedestal base; the base is certainly modern but the basin may be older. Metal cover on it; appears modern.
