Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Orrin (1988), who appears to have two incompatible references to this font: in the first he mentions it as one of several Norman fonts that "have ben recut and carving introduced at a later date", in this case in the 15th-century. Later in the same source, however, Orrin writes: "The font is of 15th-century type, octagonal with a plain bowl and similar stem. Between the two there are a number of plain chamfered roll-mouldings. The stem rests on a much older base which is octagonal ending with stops on a square plinth. This present 15th-century replaced an earlier 13th-century font". Orrin (ibid.) describes then the font cover: "The font cover is in three stages. The highest is ribbed, has foliated crockets and is topped by a similar finial. It is supported by little cinquefoil-headed niches below gables which are themselves crocketed with finials and separated by pinnacles which run through the middle stage. This stage includes little arches enclosing cinquefoiled lights with quatrefoils in the head. The lower stage which is angled out to meet the top of the font comprises openwork panels of cusped quatrefoils and long-lobed motifs representing flowing tracery." Described in Newman (1995) simply as a small octagonal font of the 15th century. "Pinnacled cover, C19"
