design element - motifs
Scene Description: the motifs on this added stone insert [seen here in the lighter colour] do not match anything else on the font; it is probably a loose stone from elsewhere in the church used to patch the damage likely to have been caused by the metal anchors of an old cover

Described and illustrated in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a beautiful 13th century stone baptismal font "à piscine accolée" ornamented with vine leaves and birds. Baptismal font of the suspended-basin type, somewhat similar to the Cornish-type in England; it consists of a basin that is hexagonal at the upper rim, rounded below; it rests on a short central stump and on three slender shafts which reach all the way to the upper rim of the basin; these angle colonnettes end at top in capitals but they are now badly damaged; the basin side has a running wine below the rim, and there is a pattern of vine leaves and birds all done in fairly high relief on the lower sides and underbowl; the short central stem has three grotesque figures supporting the basin in an atlante position; the lower base is rounded at the top and hexagonal below. No font cover present, though there must have been one originally.
