Font Notes:
Illustrated without description in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) claiming that it is a former historiated capital hollowed out to serve as holy-water stoup; the illustration shows a plain upper square surface under which runs a two-strand braid; below it, the visible side of the capital has what appears to be a scene of the Fall of Man with Adam on the left taking the apple from Eve's -in the centre- right hand, while her left hand extends to the mouth of the serpent wrapped on the tree at the right; the astragale and a glimpse of plain round column can also be seen. The entry for this object in Palissy [ref.: PM60001350] puts into question the identification as re-purposed medieval capital: "Bénitier en forme de chapiteau de plan carré, percé d'une cuve circulaire reposant sur une colonne [...] Calcaire [...] H=96 ; la=30 ; pr= 27 [...] L'une des faces du bénitier est occupée par la figure du Christ bénissant ; la suivante est occupée par la Tentation d'Adam et Eve avec le serpent qui mort la main d'Eve ; les deux dernières sont occupées par l'ange chassant Adam et Eve du Paradis [...] Il manque le bras droit d'Adam dans la Tentation. Le support de la cuve est moderne."; the Palissy entry (ibid.), however, further suggests that despite the dating efforts that had placed the dating ca. 1603, the object could be of a much later date, even as late of the 20th century: "Des travaux historiques ont datés cette oeuvre de 1603. Elle pourrait être bien plus récente et n'être que du 20e siècle." Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: IVR22_19966002069ZA].
