Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a baptismal font dated 1660. Fully described and illustrated in the 'Bretagne 2 Itineraires' web site [www.bretagne2.com]: a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with angels, serpents, birds, lion, deer and Christ's anagram, as well as four inscriptions referring to the four rivers of Paradise [cf. Inscription area], in reference to Genesis 2, 10-14 [NB: the Faou font uses "Tigris" instead of Heiddekel for the third 'head' or river]. The font is housed in a large baldaquin, as is often found in churches of this region [Britanny / Bretagne]. [NB: the font itself is dated to the beginning of the 16th century in this source]. The web site for Patrimoine Breton [www.bagadoo.tm.fr/patrimoine-breton/rumengol.html] describes and illustrates a roughly hemispherical stone basin decorated with birds, snakes, cherub(s?) and four labels bearing the names of the fourt rivers of Paradise: "le Géhon, le Phison, le Tigris et l'Euphrate". The font is shown covered with an old lid provided with a lock. This same source informs that in this font was baptised Philippe Le Guillou. [NB: a certain style in the decoration of this font may be compared to the one of the font at Aoiz, Navarra, in Spain -- cf. Index entry]
