Church Notes: a series of earlier churches here since ca. 600 AD; built on an original Romanesque church; re-built 1195-1230, with many expansions and modifications since; re-purposed by the Revolution; restored 1829-1847;
Illustrated in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ): a holy-water stoup with a very shallow basin; the basin has an inscription on its upper rim [text unknown], at least one shield bearing a coat of arms [unknown] while the rest of its surface and underbowl are covered in fleur-de-lis motifs; the latter are described in Lasteyrie (1926-1927) as "seize fleurs de lys dorées alternant avec douze hermines argentées". The very slender rounded stem of the base is also covered in the fleur-de-lis motif. The lower base appears triangular and ornamented with medallion-like motif. The same source [cf. supra] gives the date in the caption as 1507 [from the inscription?]. Noted in Chancel-Bardelot (2008) as one of five holy-water stoups in this cathedral church; this one, which is illustrated in the source, is made of cast metal in the common shape of an upturned bell, typical of these cast metal objects; the décor on it is as indicated in Lasteyrie above, plus two large ring handles at the upper end; it rests on the backs of three tiny lions; the whole is raised on a hexagonal pedestal column made of stone and probably modern [NB: theis pedestal base appears to be different from the one recorded in the Dictionnaire… above, and is quite likely modern]. Chancel-Bardelot (ibid.), mentions a wooden cover.
