According to the Site officiel de la commune de Thiré [www.communethire.fr/patrimoine.php] [accessed 27 December 2013] the choir of the church is the oldest surviving part of the 13th-century church here, but the porphyry stoup and the baptismal font are dated 17th-century. An object here is described by R. Crozet in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) simply as a 16th century porphyry holy-water stoup. The entry in Palissy [ref.: PM85000368], however, corrects the date of the porphyry cup to the 19th century and its function, from stoup to baptismal font: "Coupe servant de fonts baptismaux [...] porphyre [...] milieu 19e siècle [...] Anciennement datée du 16e siècle." The Vendée romane site [http://vendee-romane.com/thire.html] [accessed 27 December 2013] notes: "l’église Saint-Pierre est un bel édifice gothique daté du XVe siècle. Le chœur est la partie la plus ancienne, sa décoration s’apparente au XIIIe siècle. Dans les combles de la chapelle Sud, on retrouve les modillons de la corniche romane, au nombre de 13, leur style se rattache à celui de la fin du XIIe siècle."
