Church Notes: 14thC church originally the property of the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Nanteuil -- Mérimée [ref.: PA00104555]: "Vicairie perpétuelle de l'abbaye bénédictine de Nanteuil, dépendant de l'ancien diocèse de Poitiers, l'église fut reconstruite au 13e siècle. Après les guerres de Cent ans, elle a été remaniée au 15e siècle (souche du clocher, chapelle sud, deuxième et troisième travées de la nef, voûtes de la nef...). En 1868-1869, les bas-côtés ont été remontés. L'édifice est de plan rectangulaire à chevet plat [...] 13e siècle ; 15e siècle ; 19e siècle"
Font Notes:
Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a stoup carved out of a 13th century capital. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM16000201]: "Le chapiteau a été transformé en bénitier [...] Représentation humaine (tête, couronne, mitre) [...] 12e siècle (?) ; 13e siècle (?) [...] H=88". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: APMH00026578]. The present baptismal font in this church appears modern; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with foliage/floral decoration on the sides, raised on a round pedestal base. No cover present [NB: is the base earlier than the basin?]
