Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a holy-water stoup carved no doubt out of an ancient altar; it is ornamented with arches of twisted columns, interlace and grapevine motifs. Soutou (1969) notes a record of 1203 in which Bec de Brusque donates "Beate Marie del Caslar : Notre-Dame du Cayla [...] la glesia dal Castlar" to Ricard de Lapeyre, commander of the Knights Hospitaler at Saint-Felix-de-Sorgues [NB: the latter a location closer to Cayla than Versols]. On-site notes: the only object identified in this church during our visit was a pedestal holy-water stoup whose basin is ornamented with a blind arcade and dated 1615 -- not clear whether we visited the right church, as the entry in the Dictionnaire... may refer to Notre Dame du Cayla, an old priory church outside of Versols, itslef a hamlet or village in the Versols-et-Lapeyre commune, bot of which parts have separate churches as well [Lapeyre un ruins but with a magnificent 11thC tympanum]
