Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a baptistery which probably existed since the 5th century; it was however replaced by a Renaissance chapel in 1521. B. Fournioux' article 'La Cité de Périgueux à la fin du Moyen Âge : l'organisation de son espace et ses références' in Archéologie médiévale. Année 1993: 287-303 [https://www.persee.fr/doc/arcme_0153-9337_1993_num_23_1_1032] [accessed 20 April 2025] refers to the old baptistery from a 1385 source which referred to a part of the cathedral complex known ca. 1246 as "le chapitat", located "dans un coing du bas cloistre de la dicte esglise", i.e., the episcopal church of Saint-Etienne.
