Bajamont

Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a baptismal font "à pans coupés" with the date 1611 inscribed on it. This font, now disused and serving as a stoup at the west end of the nave, by the entranceway, consists of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a roll moulding at the upper rim, and prominent gadrooned pattern around the underbowl; raised on a bulbous pedestal base decorated with three roll mouldings; on a round-to-square lower base; dated 1611; modern multi-coloured glass cover on it. A later font, located at the east end, near the altar, is now in use; it consists of an octagonal basin on an octagonal pedestal base and lower base; all plain; date unknown although it appears modern. The 1611 disused font is noted and illustrated in Visites Aquitaine [http://visites.aquitaine.fr/eglise-de-saint-arnaud] [accessed 8 December 2013]: “Les fonts baptismaux de l’église portent la date de 1611 [...] situés dans la nef, à l’entrée de l’église [...] Ils consistent en un socle de base carré, scellé au sol, portant une colonne moulurée et une vasque circulaire, la cuve baptismale, elle aussi travaillée [...] Les fonts baptismaux sont aujourd’hui utilisés comme bénitier tandis qu’une autre cuve baptismale, de réalisation plus récente, est installée à l’arrière de l’autel, dans l’abside."
