Century and Period: , Pre-Romanesque? / Romanesque?
Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as one of the two marble stoups in this church, both made from recycled capitals; this one is described by V. Allègre, in the same source, as being either pre-Romanesque or a very crude Romanesque. The stoup consists of the 'basin'. i.e., the re-cycled capital, square at the top to round at the bottom; it has large acanthus foliage motif as well as some lovely quetrefoiled floral motifs adorning the sides of cylinders -much eroded- and other fine motifs on it; the unmatched pedestal base, cylinrical and plain, appers to be a re-cycled piece as well. Like the other stoup, it is located inside the church, by the main entranceway. [cf. BSI entry for Valcabrere No. 1 for another stoup of somewhat similar characteristics in this church, and Valcabrere No. 3 for the baptismal font in it].
