Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) as a very original stoup: whereas the polygonal basin has crudely rendered odd motifs (potent cross, fleur-de-lis), the base is a beatiful statue of a richly dressed female (now, unfortunately, decapitated; it was painted in the past); the same source attributes the base to an artist of the Burgundian school (late 15th cent.) responsible for the statues at Monesties-Combefa or the choir at Sainte-Cécile of Albi (entry by Victor Allègre in the Dictionnaire des églises..., 1966- , III A 66). On-site notes: at the time of our visit (June 2001), the lovely marble statuette had been detached from the basin and was located in a wall alcove or niche, near the west end of the church, safe behind bars [cf. Image area]. The hexagonal basin of the stoup is now wall-mounted below an ornamented back-drop.
