The Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- ) describes the baptismal font at Notre-Dame de Fronton as a lead font of the 16th century, its base ornamented with Madonna-and-Child, cherubs, etc.; the basin bears two registers of ornamentation, with scenes of the Crucifixion,St. Michael's fight with the dragon, etc. [Fronton entry by Victor Allègre in Dictionnaire des églises... (1966- , III A 59]. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM31000229]: "fonts baptismaux [...] plamb, marbre [pied] [...] 16e siècle". On-site notes: cylindrical lead basin mounted on a crooked 19th-century holder base. The sides of the basin have two registers: the upper register has twenty-three panels showing the St. Michael (George?)-with-dragon scene beneath a Crucifixion-with-Mary-and-John-in-attendance; the lower register has six panels showing three full-body cherubs -one frontal, two profiled- among foliage. The basin is in pretty good shape except for a few nicks and dents here and there. The inside of the basin well side has a mini-shelf/pocket which may have been destined to hold holy chrism (?)
