Church Notes: There are two churches,Saint-Geniès and Saint-Blaise, the first in the 'Dessous' [=lower] and the second in the 'Dessus' [=upper] parts of the commune. Saint-Blaise is reported to have an exceptional group of 15th century mural paintings (source: Dictionnaire des églises.. (1966- , III A 29)
Described and illustrated in the Dictionnaire des églises.. (1966- ): very crudely carved and irregularly shaped stoup in two parts; the basin is roughly round in shape with protruding heads; between the heads, in very low relief, a Maltese cross inside a circle. The base is a square pedestal with half-ball motifs (unless they are also heads). On-site notes: the stoup located to the right of the entrance is indeed a crude work and all the worse for the damage it has suffered; the heads located at 90-degree angles on the basin are badly broken and hardly distinguishable as other than lumps in the stone; the other low-reliefs on the basin sides have survived in better shape: L->R after the firts head: a concentric circle motif. a pattée cross in a circle; another protruding head; then, two identical motifs of a four-leaf rosette inside a circle; another protruding head; the rest is either plain or too close to the wall (or both); there is a horizontal moulding around the lower side of the basin. The cylindrical pedestal of the base has a marked roll moulding about 3/4 down the shaft and one (or several) more broken heads (or were they half-ball motifs instead?) on the upper 1/4. It is not known whether or not the work was as crude as it appears now, though the general shape and work does not look like a refined work. [NB: the baptismal font at this church -cf. the Index entry for Benque... No. 2- is also a very crude work]
