Scene Description: much damaged and now disused, the old font basin forms part of a small lapidarium formed around the its original plinth; damage areas in the upper rim were probably related to the metal staples of an old cover

Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966-) as a one of two Romanesque holy-water stoups located at the side of the entrance to the church . On-site notes: two large font-like objects have been placed in the southwest corner of the church, one of them, this one, right at the angle against the wall, the other [cf. entered as Solignac No. 3] a little farther out. We emptied the load of roks from this cauldron-like basin and believe there is an off-side drain hole in it, though this would not by itself make it a good candidate for a font, especially in view of its shallow well; it does however look like a font basin of the time, it has the traces of a lid on the rim and it is found inside a church, however abandoned. It may very well be an object brought in from a nearby abandoned church, a common practice in some parts of Europe. There are two drain holes on the ground [cf. Images area] at either end of the west end and there must have been two stoups or fonts draining their holy water there at some point. Paradoxically, the present day church makes do with a copper kettle -resembling those used by the sugar almond makers in country fairs- for its baptismal needs [Quel dommage!]
