Church Notes: 10thC church and 13thC baptistery listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00099194]: "L'église (10e siècle) et le baptistère (13e siècle) sont tous deux construits en petites pierres cassées, liées au mortier de chaux. L'édifice présentait un plan basilical à trois nefs, dont il ne subsiste que l'abside. Le baptistère voisin conserve son abside et, prises dans la maçonnerie, ses deux absidioles. Aux abords, le terrain conserve les ruines d'une maison forte du 9e siècle."
One of three Corsican baptisteries noted in Salet Francis' Trois baptistères des XIe et XIIe siècles en Corse (IIe partie) [compte-rendu], in the Bulletin Monumental (1958, 116-1: pp. 59-60) [https://www.persee.fr/doc/bulmo_0007-473x_1958_num_116_1_8758_t1_0059_0000_3] [accessed 15 September 2022]. Described in the Dictionnaire des églises... (1966-) as a little trefoil-shaped baptistery situated a few yards from the apse of the church; the font itself used to be in the centre of the building. There is a listing of both th echurch and the baptistery in Mérimée [ref.: PA00099194]; it dates the church to the 10th century and the adjacent baptistery to the 13th century; the source qualifies these remains as 'vestiges [...] Ensemble religieux ; site archéologique". A cylindrical tub font basin remains among the ruins [cf. ImagesArea]; rests directly on the ground. No cover present.
