Described and illustrated in Sveriges kyrkor: Gotland (Bd. IX, hft. 1: 46-47, 64) as the much damaged original font of this church; only a small fragment remains of the chalk-stone (limestone) basin, with a moulding on the underbowl; the base is a plain sandstone cylinder and the lower base is a square of the same stone; there appear to have been spurs or leaves at the angles of the lower base, but the stone is much too eroded to have any certainty of its former ornamentation. On-site notes: SK [cf. supra] reports a drain of 10 square centimeters, but we could not see any in the basin; is the drain hole in the base? It is possible that a 13th-century font had a basin with no drain. The font in use now is a 1699 unremarkable sandstone pedestal-type [cf. Index entry for Näs No. 2 (Gotland)]. [NB: not to be mistaken with the wooden font from a village of the same name in northern Sweden, also listed in this Index]
