Font Century and Period/Style: 14th - 15th century, Medieval
Church / Chapel Name: In the cemetery
Font Location in Church: Outside, forming a group with a stone cross
Site Location: Ille-et-Vilaine / Il-ha-Gwilen, Bretagne, France, Europe
Directions to Site: In the canton de Liffré, arrondissement de Rennes
Additional Comments: recycled stoup: a rare COMBO of a tall stone cross and a short holy water stoup in the cemetery grounds; the stoup is believed to have been originally from one of the churches or chapels of the area.
Font Notes:
This unique example of holy-water stoup and stone cross 'combo' is listed and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes d'Ille-et-Vilaine (2000); the source does, however, indicate that the two were originally independent, the stoup being probably from one of the churches or chapels of the area. They now make a strange pair, tall cross and short stoup, sharing a rectangular concrete (?) base in all weathers in the cemetery of this commune.
