Lampérez y Romea (1930) informs of the existence of a baptistery, which was torn down in one of the many expansions and modifications of this church, in the site of the present cathedral: "The baptistery of San Juan de Santiago had a polygonal plant at the centre of which was the immersion font" and gives the date as the 9th or 10th century [our translation]
