Church Notes: The church of Saint-Barthélemy dates back to the 10th-11th century.
Listed and illustrated in Le Patrimoine des communes de l'Allier (1999) as a double-font of the 15th century; it consists of an octagonal basin, the main one, mounted on a broader base of the same shape and raised on a plinth; the appendage is square and smaller but of the same height; the basin sides of both the basin and the appendage are painted in a light-beige/cream colour, each side bearing a number of symbols: shields, cross, Christ's initials; two of the shields, though vandalised during the Revolution, are said to bear the arms of the dukes of Bourbon [cf. infra]. The main basin has a tall wooden cover in two volumes: the lower is octagonal with vertical walls, while the upper is an octagonal pyramid with a ball finial. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM03000047]: "Ces fonts baptismaux sont composés d'une cuve octogonale et d'un pilier portant la piscine [...] Les faces de la cuve sont ornées d'écussons portant les monogrammes du Christ, de la Vierge, et une croix, ainsi que deux écus martelés en 1793 mais sur lesquels on peut encore distinguer les armoiries des Bourbons [...] 15e siècle".
