Scene Description: the much damaged moulding was the original upper rim of the basin; it had been damaged by the metal anchorings of an earlier font cover; the restoration of the font added a flat piece of the same sandstone to create a new rim

Church Notes: church originally 12thC; listed in Mérimée [ref.: IA67000912]: "De l'église primitive du 12e siècle, il ne subsiste que la tour-clocher, qui faisait également office de choeur. La nef, reconstruite au 18e siècle, constitue aujourd'hui le choeur. Quant à la nef actuelle, elle date du 19e siècle. La sacristie a été ajoutée durant la 1ère moitié du 20e siècle."

Palissy [ref.: IM67009883]: "Fonts baptismaux [grès] de section octogonale [...] Décor : arcatures trilobées [...] datée 1618 sur la cuve. Le couvercle métallique est récent." Noted and illustrated in Le patrimoine des communes du Bas-Rhin, 1999, v. 2, p. 1452). Sandstone octagonal mounted font dated 1618 by an inscription on the basin sides, sides which are decorated with trefoiled arch-heads; the underbowl panels are very tall reaching down toward a squat octagonal base, from which they are separated by a moulding; the whole rests on a very flat square plinth. Dome-shaped metal [brass?] cover with a cross finial; modern and padlocked to the new upper rim of the font, a repair done by adding a flat section of the same sandstone to the original damaged rim.
