Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: IM67007133] as a baptismal font of 1491 originally from the Cistercian abbey at Neubourg
Described and illustrated in our source (Patrimoine..., Bas-Rhin, 1999, v. 1, p. 252) as an octagonal mounted sandstone font with Flamboyant Gothic ornamentation. The sides of the basin and the underbowl are decorated with Ogee arches and shapes, while the stem of the base show a more restrained blind arcade motif. There is a rather flat metal cover with a human figure statue as finial. The source [cf. supra] states that the font "portent la date 1146 car ils ont été sculptés, au XVe siècle, pour l'abbaye cistercienne de Neubourg, qui passe, au XIe siècle, un contrat dans lequel est mentionnée pour la première fois la paroisse de Brumath." The entry for this church in Mérimée [ref.: IA00119138] notes: " Eglise attestée au 10e siècle, dédiée aux martyrs de Milan-Nazaire-et-Celse".
