Church Notes: originally a chapel dedicated to St. Mary; a priory was founded between 1149 and 1157, its church prieurale Sainte-Marie, later Notre-Dame, aka Notre-Dame, Saint-Melaine, became parochial later still; re-building started 1489; finished 1611; suppressed by the Revolution; reestablished 1946 -- listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00090129]: "15e siècle ; 16e siècle"
One of several holy-water stoups listed for this church in BSI. Listed in Enlart (1902) as a stoup located on the outside of the [south] entrance to this church, in the porch. Listed in Palissy [ref.: PM29000593]: "Bénitier [...] Trumeau de la porte du porche [sud] [...] Il est surmonté de la statuette de Notre-Dame du Bon Secours [...] 15e siècle [...] H = 140 (hauteur approximative)" Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: APLP004080]; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with a stone baldaquin on it, mounted on the door-mullion of the south entranceway. There are a number of other holy-water stoups of varied dates in this church [cf. ImagesArea].
