Noted and illustrated in Penjon (1884). Enlart (1902) lists a Cluny font [not the metal one listed in this Index as being originally from Blagnac, now in the museum at Cluny], as a Tournai-type font, with four heads on the basin sides and five-support base. Corblet (1881-1882) includes a font at Cluny, which he describes as having a hemispheric well in the basin; the basin itself is supported by four corner shafts with heads at the top and a rim over them; he also mentions a band of ivy foliage motif in between the heads and dates the font to the 14th century. Viollet-le-duc describes the font just as Corblet reported it and provides plan and elevation illustrations of it (cf. his Dictionnaire..., t. 5, 1875, p. 537-538 and ills. on p. 539). Lasteyrie (1926-1927), after Viollet-le-Duc, provides a partial illustration of the Cluny font at the church of Saint-Marcel; it is probably of one piece but the volumes of the central basin and base, and those of the corner columns are well defined, the capitals of the columns carved as large heads while the basin sides are covered in foliage motif. The corner columns are quite broad and still attached to the main body of the font. Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM71000265]: "Pilier cylindrique cantonné de quatre colonnettes dont les chapiteaux sont formés de têtes humaines [...] 13e siècle".
