According to Corblet (1881-1882) there was a baptistery annexed to the cathédrale de St-Étienne. He states that, "d'aprés le temoignage de Florus", the baptistery was decorated with sculptures of the twelve Apostles, St. John the Baptist, Christ, and of "les quatre animaux de l'Apocalypse et les quatre fleuves personifiés du Paradis." It was later enlarged on the 10th century and became the "église primatiale" retaining the dedication to St. John. (Corblet, 1881-1882, v. 2, p. 66). [NB: the baptismal font/tank itself can still be seen in the archaeological park]. Noted in Ferguson (2009) with some measurements. A reconstruction of the baptistery and an illustration of the font, as found in the excavations of 1970 are shown in Lyon (2011). The present font inside the cathedral is modern.
