Church Notes: church listed in Mérimée [ref.: IA68007166]: "Une église paroissiale existait dès le Moyen Age, dédiée à saint Cucufat et administrée par les religieux du prieuré de Lièpvre. Elle se trouvait certainement au même emplacement que l'église actuelle, la tour abritant le choeur tourné vers l'est. Elle pourrait remonter au 14e ou au 15e siècle, mais certains auteurs la situent à l'époque romane. Les ouvertures ont été remaniées, sauf peut-être l'ancien arc triomphal. Sur le mur sud, une petite porte en plein cintre, murée, donnait accès à la sacristie, détruite. Un lavabo à coussinets et une armoire eucharistique en accolade appartiennent au 15e siècle. La trace de l'ancienne toiture de la nef, plus basse que l'actuelle, est visible sur le mur de la tour, depuis le comble. En 1752, une nouvelle nef fut élevée, la tour-choeur abritant alors un porche, étant surélevée d'un étage. Des pierres provenant de l'église du prieuré, détruite un an auparavant, furent utilisées, en particulier dans le soubassement des murs. Le mur-pignon de la nef est percé d'un oculus daté 1704 (date qui ne peut s'expliquer dans l'état actuel des connaissances). Le nouveau choeur était occidenté ; une sacristie contre le mur sud fut surélevée au 19e siècle."

Listed in Corblet (1881-1882) simply as a 15th century font. The date may well refer to the plain polygonal (hexagonal?) basin only, since the base is of a different style and period. Le Patrimoine des communes du Haut-Rhin (1998, v. 2, p. 1080) describes the base as being made of two stacked 12th century capitals of "l'art roman lorrain", originally from the ancient priory at Fulrad. The upper capital, says the source, represents baptism: a Sagittarius, a serpent or toad, and an infant Christ sitting on a fish. The lower capital has a centaur, a nereid and several nymphs. The font has a beatiful pyramidal oak (?) cover with foliage panels and a finial of a cross on top of a hexagonal (?) building. Font listed in Palissy [ref.: IM68010223]: "Fonts baptismaux [...] Fonts baptismaux au pied composé de deux chapiteaux superposés en grès au décor en bas relief (cf. sous-dossier), supportant une cuve en grès hexagonale aux arêtes abattues. Couvercle hexagonal en chêne [...] H=190 ; Hauteur totale avec le couvercle [...] Restaurations en ciment à la cuve. Couvercle remplacé [...] Ces fonts baptismaux sont composés d'éléments d'époques différentes : le pied est fait de la superposition de deux chapiteaux romans (2e moitié du 12e siècle, cf. sous-dossier), la cuve date peut-être du 18e siècle et le couvercle est un ajout de la fin du 19e siècle ou du début du 20e siècle."
