Recorded in Palissy [Référence : IM67000673] as a sandstone baptismal font from the third quarter of the 15th century, originally from Ehl ["Fonts baptismaux du 3e quart du 15e siècle provenant du couvent détruit d'_EHL"], also in Alsace; traces of paint are reported on the font; new stone insert repairs also visible. The Patrimoine..., Bas-Rhin (1999, v. 1, p. 82) dates to the third quarter of the 15th century and gives its provenance as the convent of Ehl. This same source informs that the base is not the original and that it resembles the font at the cathedral in Strasburg (dated to 1463), which may account for the latter dating. The font is chalice-shaped with an octagonal basin ornamented with Ogee arches; one of the sides of the basin has a large hole towards the bottom, which may indicate that the font was used at some point in its history as a water trough in a farm.
