Polygonal basin has the corners trimmed and the panels of the basin sides ornamented with Ogee trefoil windows; under the wide rim, a grapevine all around ["guirlande de pampres"]. The basin still has much of the paint on it, greens and blues mostly. The inside well of the basin is divided into two compartments. The base is round and ornamented with several mouldings. (Patrimoine…, Nièvre, 1999, v. 1, p. 304-305). Listed by Corblet (1881-1882) simply as being a 16th century font. Described in Fondation du Patrimoine [https://www.fondation-patrimoine.org/les-projets/eglise-saint-martin-a-chitry-les-mines/79575] [accessed 7 April 2025]: "Les fonds baptismaux en pierre, à pans coupés sont décorés de moulures, de petits contreforts et de guirlandes."
