Described in Corblet (1881-1882) as a cylindrical basin shaped like a vat, totally plain, supported on a another stone basin of about the same dimensions and embeded in the ground to the level of the plinth; this base, explains Corblet, "remplissait l'office de piscine pour l'écoulement de l'eau baptismale." The patrimony section of the Saint-Jean-le-Vieux web site [https://www.saintjeanlevieux.fr/spip.php?article29] [accessed 9 September 2017] by Bernadette Cadoux notes: "On ne sait rien de la pierre baptismale creusée en demi sphère située dans le fond de l’église, ni du bénitier en pierre reposant sur une meule trouée, sinon qu’il sont sans doute les éléments les plus anciens de l’église."
