Church Notes: original church of the 11thC; listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00083175]: "L'église actuelle a remplacé deux édifices religieux plus anciens : un simple oratoire sous l'invocation de la Trinité, et une petite église. L'église primitive a disparu sous les constructions postérieures. L'oratoire existe encore mais modifié et agrandi. On en a fait la chapelle souterraine de Saint-Forte. Dans cet oratoire furent inhumés Saint-Seurin, un des premiers évêques de Bordeaux, ainsi que Saint-Amand et Saint-Forte. Au cours du Moyen-Age, l'église a été plusieurs fois saccagée et restaurée. Le portail occidental, composé de trois arcades, s'orne de chapiteaux historiés. La façade elle-même a été édifiée au 19e siècle. Au-dessus du vieux portique s'élève un clocher quadrangulairee. Un beffroi a été appliqué au côté sud de l'église. La porte sud, gothique, présente des ogives en trèfle, des statues grandeur nature et des bas-reliefs. Le maître autel et la chapelle Notre-Dame des Roses s'ornent de reliefs du 14e et 15e siècle. En 1698, la chute de la grande voûte a entraîné des travaux qui ont par endroit fait disparaître le caractère gothique de la construction."

Described in Corblet (1881-1882): 17th century cylindrical bronze font with three inscriptions [cf. InscriptionsArea] which inform of the date when it was made, 1659, the donnors, François Raillard and his wife, and the name of the artist who made the font, Léonard Hervé. The side of th basin is ornamented with: an image of the donnor, kneeling, accompanied by his patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Denis holding his mitred head in his hands, a king (Corblet suggests Charlemagne) kneeling before an enthroned Pope, heads of angels, of men and of sirens, and coats of arms. Corblet informs that, during the French Revolution, the font was sent to Rochefort together with other bronzes from the church of St-Seurin to be melted; they were not and the font sat in the gardens of the Préfecture until 1867 when it was sent back to Bordeaux. Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM33000360].
